Taking a Mental Vacation
Burnout is a real thing. It happens when you’ve worked tirelessly on something, whether it be at work or on a school project, to the point of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion. Your brain becomes mush, and you can’t seem to focus anymore on what you’re supposed to be working on. You end up feeling overwhelmed and just completely drained.
And that’s your cue!
You need to take a mental vacation. You need to give your mind and body a rest, and a chance to reboot. So what exactly is a mental vacation? It really depends on you! The idea is to take your mind off of work, of school, of anything that has been causing you stress. It’s your moment to break away and take a breather.
Different Ways to take a Mental Vacation:
Read a book. Find one that pulls you into the story, and lets you forget about everything else, other than the plot.
Binge on a TV Show. There are plenty of shows to choose from on several platforms (i.e. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc.). Find a show you’ve been meaning to watch and dive into it.
Meditate. Think of calming places that you would love to visit. Take deep breaths and imagine being there.
Bye Bye Social Media. It’s as simple as that. Put away your phone or computer and take a break. Unplug from it all for awhile.
Take a Walk. Don’t hold yourself back. Put on those walking shoes and take a walk around the block, or on a pathway nearby. Indulge in the scenery.
Play a Game. Whether you enjoy computer games, video games, or board games, go have fun. Decide on a game you want to play and play it.
Goodbye Stress
I’ve used all of these ways to take my own mental vacations and I can assure you that they are great choices. Just recently, I decided I would start a new TV show on Netflix. I had a very stressful week with work, and I just needed a chance to get away from that. So for the next 4 hours, I dived into this new show. I became hooked and wanted to know these characters more, and what their story would be. My crazy, stressful work week was the last thing on my mind. I was now in a different world; a place where there was adventure and excitement. And after pulling myself away from this show, I felt better. My mind was at ease, and I felt a moment of peace. That was the best part of my mental vacation.
So remember, only you can decide what type of mental vacation to take! But no matter the choice, mental vacations are a must. It is a known fact that they help to clear our minds, as well as ease our stress. And who doesn’t like that? Take every chance you have! You won’t regret it.
